Hello,

I’m Seoyoung Kwon-Schmitz, a designer dedicated to creating immersive spaces and events. Originally from Korea, I moved between my home country and the US during my upbringing. In 2009, I relocated to New York to attend Pratt Institute, and since graduating, I have pursued a career in the creative field. Before joining CHANEL in 2017 as an events and animation designer, I worked as an architect at an architecture firm and at Jo Malone London, and more recently, as a window design consultant at Eileen Fisher. There, I discovered my passion for interactive and vibrant spatial design.

At CHANEL, I have led the creation of numerous events and pop-ups, with notable achievements including the Rockefeller Center pop-up in November 2021 and the CHANCE Diner in September 2023. I believe in the transformative power of exceptional space design. It has the ability to inspire, foster connections, and enhance our daily experiences, making our lives more enriching and meaningful. Outside of design, I am passionate about cooking, though I often indulge before I get a chance to document my culinary creations!

Behind the scenes
Let me take you to the backstage!

1. The Vision Begins
No space is too snug or too sprawling! I kick off every project with a site visit, where I dive into the details and ideate event concepts that perfectly complement each unique space within the brief.

2. The Design Phase
With the design and drawing reviews complete, it’s time to bring ideas to life. I visit vendors regularly to check on progress and refine each design element. Collaboration is key—working closely with engineers, team leads, and agencies, we fine-tune the details and lock in timelines to ensure everything runs smoothly.

3. Installation in Action
Installation begins, and this is where the magic truly happens! As the design lead, I stay deeply involved, spending time at the end of each day to review progress and work with install leads on the punch list. With tight schedules—sometimes just a few days—it’s all about staying sharp and focused to bring the vision to life without missing a beat.
